  Just trying to get back to your topic:

  Admittedly this is a question mainly for the lurkers, so this post might not get many responses. But the reason I post this is to ask if all the time and effort we spend on this subject is just an exercise in futility, or do people actually learn from and/or enjoy these discussions?
  I’ll go first:

  What a contradiction?

  You ask for lurkers to respond and then you respond like your a lurker!

  So shouldn't regular posters not be talking about the debate on this thread since you are regular posters?(and not lurkers).

  there has been a number of threads related to evolution in the last month or so.

  some posters, like penn, subscribes to a form of creationism, which i for this purpose will define as denial of large scale evolution (sometimes called macro-evolution).. even saner people sometimes alleges that scientists are unnecessarily 'dogmatic' about evolution, and that this is 'just a theory.

  ' these people may be recent exjws or jws, still believing the watchtower propaganda against evolutionary science, or accepting similar claims from various fundamentalist preachers and groups.

  If I may correct a statement of yours:

  As regards the actual debate, D wiltshire questioned how reproduction came about. Jan answered this well.

  Here is the answer Jan gave:

  Naturally, the most primitive "organism" left little to help us know exactly what it looked like. DNA came much, much later. It has been argued that the amino acid form of life was a quite late stage in evolution, even though it is the only extant life form today. Perhaps the earliest replicators were crystaline structures

  While I appreciate the answer Jan gave I can't say that the answer was satifactory and convincing. Don't get me wrong, this is not a put down for Jan.
  I must say though that Jan does make a pretty convincing point with reguards the whales as a point in favor of the evolutionary process.
  Also Jan does a good job in simplifying the teaching of evolution. I find my ideas about evolution have changed over these discussions.

  Still all in all at some point the Theist, and Atheist as well have to use leaps of Faith in their conclusions. Even if both beleive in evolution.

  I'm not saying evolution does not occur.

  But reproduction how did that ever come about?
  Let's say some amino acids by random chance form some type of organized system that we could call Life.
  What would be the reason that it would develope the ability to replicate itself as an almost perfect copy by means of DNA.

  Evolution could well be the way God made all the life we see on earth today. I don't know for sure.

  You must remember that all that come out of WT Mind Control don't become Christians as it is with probably with the majority who post on this board.
  Don't forget that many of us have family members that are still JWs and are shunning us to our hurt, so it is quite natural to do want you can to bring down this tyranical Organization, that destroys families, surely God can find no fault in that.

  Exsposing hypocrisy is not a sin last time I checked.

  would it be proper for a christian to work on the development.

  I can't say if it's right or wrong for another Christian.
  I don't beleive that a Christian has that right.
  Jesus said to "stop judging and you will not be judged" with reguard to our neighbor.
  I can only judge for myself as to whether or not I will accept such emploment.
  Read the whole NT and it become plane that we are not under laws but undeserved kindness.
  Which leaves us free to choose, hopefully we won't be making too any wrong choices.
  There is no record in the NT that shows once a person became a Christian he had to give up military service, John the Baptist said that those in military service should not harass anyone that's all( but that advice was for Jews that listened to Him not neccesarily Christians).
